The Washington and Lee Department of Athletics held its annual athletics award ceremony at Lee Chapel on Tuesday evening, honoring student-athletes and administrators who have made the 2012-13 school year as successful as any in recent memory.

W&L Claims the 2013 ODAC Overall Sports Champion Cup
For the 11th-consecutive year, Washington and Lee University has claimed the Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup, as announced by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference on Friday. The Generals claimed both the Women’s Commissioner’s Cup and the Men’s Commissioner’s Cup on their way to the overall title.

Washington and Lee and Guilford will be meeting for the 37th time, with the Quakers holding a 25-11 advantage in the all-time series that began during the 1994-95 season. After dropping 20 of the first 21 games in the series, W&L has recovered to win 10 of the last 15 games, including each of the last four. The Generals have typically struggled offensively against Guilford, averaging just 58.2 points per game across the series. Additionally, W&L carries just a 5-12 overall record against Guilford at home.

Washington and Lee and Mary Washington will be meeting for the 11th time, with the Eagles holding a 7-3 advantage in the all-time series that began during the Generals’ inaugural season of 1993-94. Mary Washington has won four of the last five meetings, but W&L emerged victorious last season when they knocked off the Eagles, 54-49.

As the Washington and Lee womens basketball team is looking forward to their 2009-10 campaign, they wouldnt mind looking back just a little and riding the momentum of success from the second-half of last season. The Generals notched a 12-6 record over their final 18 games en route to a 14-12 season, establishing a school record for most conference victories in a season (13-6) and earning the best conference tournament seeding in program history (fifth).
