W&L's Perszyk and Popp Earn Women's Basketball All-ODAC Accolades

SALEM, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its 2017-18 women's basketball awards on Thursday, and Washington and Lee senior guard Emily Perszyk (Greendale, Wis. / Greendale) and first-year guard Katie Popp (Rye, N.Y. / Rye) garnered all-conference honors.

Perszyk earned First Team All-ODAC accolades for the second straight year and was chosen as the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Popp was named the Rookie of the Year, while also receiving third team all-conference honors.

Perszyk has started 22 games for the Generals this season and averages a team-best 16.0 points per game and shoots 82.4 percent (98-119) from the foul line, which ranks third in the conference. She is averaging 2.3 steals per game, which is second in the ODAC. Perszyk has also scored 20 or more points in 10 games this season, including two 28-point performances.

Earlier this season, Perszyk became the 12th player in program history to score 1,000 points in her career. She now has 1,340 points in 97 games, which ranks fifth in program history. She also ranks second in program history with 194 made three-pointers. Perszyk is just the third player in in W&L women's basketball history to earn first team honors twice in her career and the first to garner the scholar-athlete award since Katy Wilson '13 received the award in 2013.

Popp is the first General to earn Rookie of the Year honors since Meg Ingram '12 garnered the award in 2009. She is averaging 14.7 points per game, which is eighth in the conference. Popp has seen action in all 25 games this season, making 18 starts for the Blue and White. She is also averaging 4.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 steals per contest. Popp tallied a career-high 25 points against NYU in December and has scored in double figures in 19 games this season.

Randolph-Macon sophomore center Kelly Williams was selected as the ODAC Player of the Year, while Emory & Henry's Anne Crutchfield was named the Coach of the Year.

The Generals are the fifth seed in the ODAC Tournament and are 16-9 overall. W&L takes on fourth-seeded Guilford on Thursday at 3:00 pm at the Salem Civic Center.
