W&L Women's Basketball Felled by Guilford, 62-43

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College used a 25-7 run over the final 7:10 of the first half and initial 3:50 of the second half in posting a 62-43 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball on Friday evening at the Ragan-Brown Field House.

The Generals (10-12, 8-9) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead early and trailed 15-13 with 7:10 left in the first half.  However, W&L shot just 2-for-8 for the remainder of the half and senior guard Jazlyn Gibbs scored seven points to key a 16-5 GC run to end the half.  The Generals ended the opening stanza shooting 7-of-25 (.280) from the floor as Guilford (16-5, 13-3) posted a 31-18 lead at the break.

W&L's cold shooting persisted at the beginning of the second half as the Generals hit just one of their first four shots and the Quakers used a 9-2 spurt to take a 40-20 lead at the 16:10 mark.

Consecutive three-pointers from senior guard Meg Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) over the next 1:04 sparked a 20-8 run that brought W&L to within 48-40 with 8:49 to play, but an 8-0 Quaker run over the next 4:05 pushed the GC lead back to 16 points (56-40) with 4:44 remaining.  The Generals would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way as Guilford claimed the season sweep.

For the game, W&L shot 50.0 percent (7-14) from three-point range, but the Generals managed just 10-for-39 shooting (.256) from inside the arc.  Guilford also claimed a 41-32 advantage on the boards.

Ingram led the Generals in scoring with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from distance.  She also had a game-high eight assists.  Junior forward Katy Wilson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor) had 13 points and six rebounds, while senior forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) scored four points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Guilford was paced by sophomore forward Gabby Oglesby's 18 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, and junior guard Brittany Atwater posted 13 points and eight boards.  Gibbs chipped in 11 points.

Washington and Lee returns to the court on Tuesday, when it hosts Emory & Henry for a 7:00 pm contest.
