W&L Women's Basketball Blows by Randolph-Macon, 78-67

ASHLAND, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's basketball team led from wire-to-wire as it swept the season series with Randolph-Macon for the first time ever with a 78-67 victory over the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday evening at Crenshaw Gymnasium.

The Generals (10-11, 8-8) shot 49.1 percent (27-55) from the floor in the contest, hitting seven of their first 11 shots in opening a 15-2 lead just 5:48 into the contest.  Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets (12-10, 10-7) went 1-of-14 from the floor before senior center Taylor Wieczorek scored at the 13:46 mark to make it an 11-point game (15-4).

Washington and Lee continued to pour it on through the opening 20 minutes, extending to a 21-point lead (37-16) on a layup by junior forward Rachel Warrick (Herndon, Va./Langley) with 3:01 to play in the half en route to a 39-20 lead at halftime.

W&L kept the pressure on R-MC at the start of the second half, using a layup by senior guard Meg Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) and a Warrick jumper to extend to a 43-20 lead just 44 seconds into the final frame.  The Generals' lead swelled to 27 points (55-28) on a three-pointer by first-year guard Annie Gauf (Vienna, Va./James Madison) at the 14:57 mark, but Randolph-Macon chipped away at the W&L advantage, eventually cutting it to 12 points (61-49) on a pair of free throws by senior guard Jillian Asay with 6:47 left to play.  However, W&L responded with five straight points to push the lead back to 17 points (66-49) and the lead remained as much as 19 points (78-59) with just 2:05 to play.

The Generals had five players score in double figures led by Ingram, who scored a season-best 28 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, including 4-of-8 from distance.  She also nailed all 10 of her free throws, grabbed seven rebounds and dished six assists.  Junior forward Katy Wilson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor) notched 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Warrick also contributed 14 points.  Senior forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) added 10 points and eight boards.

Randolph-Macon was limited to 32.9 percent (23-70) shooting for the game, including 1-of-15 (.067) from the three-point line.  The Yellow Jackets were led by Wieczorek's 17 points and 13 rebounds.  First-year guard Sarah Parsons had 13 points and sophomore forward Christina Phelps had 10 points and six rebounds.
