W&L Women's Basketball Falls at EMU, 75-55

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Eastern Mennonite shot 46.0 percent (29-63) from the floor and forced 24 Washington and Lee turnovers in posting a 75-55 win over the Generals in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Yoder Arena.

The Royals (13-1, 10-1) held the Generals (4-9, 4-6) to just nine points in the initial 9:18 of the game in opening a 10-point advantage (19-9).  W&L cut it to a six point game at 26-20 on a layup by junior forward Katy Wilson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor) with 5:36 left in the first half, but EMU closed the first half with a 10-3 run for a 36-23 lead at the break.

Eastern Mennonite opened the second stanza with a 7-0 spurt in the opening 1:51 to stretch its lead to 43-23 with 18:09 to play and the Generals could get no closer than 14 the rest of the way as the Royals swept W&L in the season series for the first time since 2007-08.

Washington and Lee, which shot just 38.2 percent (21-55) from the floor, was led by junior forward Rachel Warrick's (Herndon, Va./Langley) season-high 16 points and seven rebounds.  Senior forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) added 15 points and nine boards, while Wilson had six points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore guard Stephanie Rheinheimer paced four Royals in double figure scoring with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range.  First-year guard Shakeerah Sykes contributed 12 points and five rebounds, while sophomore forward Kayla Yoders added 11 points and seven rebounds.  Sophomore forward Bianca Ygarza chipped in 10 points and six rebounds as well.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:00 pm contest.
