COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Senior guard Kari Ann Pfannenstein (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Washington and Lee women's basketball team to a 68-58 win over Farleigh Dickinson-Florham in the first day of the Colorado College Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Devils (2-3) held a slim 10-9 lead with 13:51 remaining in the opening half, but a 13-2 W&L (1-2) run, sparked by four points from senior forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) and three points from Pfannenstein, gave the Generals a 22-12 lead with 7:41 remaining before the break.
After FDU-Florham cut the lead back to four points (24-20) just moments later, Pfannenstein hit back-to-back three-pointers to push the advantage back to 10 points (30-20) en route to a 32-25 lead at halftime.
The Devils again chipped away at the Generals' lead, cutting it to 36-31 with 17:06 left, but a 10-0 W&L run keyed by five points from Bolton stretched the lead to 15 points (46-31) with 13:29 to play. FDU continued to chip away and again sliced it to a five-point contest (63-58) with 1:37 left, but three free throws by first-year guard Annie Gauf (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and two more by Pfannenstein, helped push the lead back to double-digits as the Generals claimed their first win of the season.
Pfannenstein added six rebounds and three assists to her season-high point total. Bolton notched 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while senior guard Meg Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) added 10 points and four assists.
First-year guard Kyra Dayon paced FDU-Florham with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Washington and Lee returns to action tomorrow in the second day of the tournament against host Colorado College at 1:00 pm Mountain Time.
