W&L Women's Hoops Knocks Off Hollins, 95-60
HOLLINS, Va. – Washington and Lee opened the game with a 32-8 run and never looked back in claiming its first win of the season with a 95-60 victory over Hollins in ODAC Women's Basketball action on Monday evening.
Sophomore guard Meg Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) recorded 18 points in the opening 20 minutes and Hollins shot just 18.5 percent (5-27) from the floor in the first period as W&L opened a 51-22 lead at the break.
The Generals’ (1-2, 1-0 ODAC) lead swelled to as many as 42 points (77-35) in the second half in cruising to their 11th-straight win over Hollins.
Sophomore forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) led W&L with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. She also grabbed nine rebounds in 21 minutes of action.
Ingram tied a career-high with eight assists to go along with her 18 points in 23 minutes of play. First-year forward Rachel Warrick (Herndon, Va./Langley) totaled 18 points and nine boards, while first-year guard Katy Wilson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor) chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds. The Generals shot 47.8 percent (33-69) for the game and held a 49-31 advantage on the boards. W&L also dished 25 assists to just 18 turnovers.
Hollins (1-2, 0-1 ODAC) was paced by junior guard Tamara Phillips, who notched a game-high 30 points on 6-of-10 shooting from three-point range. First-year guard Jasmine Greene chipped in 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to Guilford for a 7:00 pm contest.
