ATLANTA, Ga. – The Women’s Basketball Coaches
Association (WBCA) announced its 2010 State Farm Division III
All-America team on Thursday and Washington and Lee sophomore
forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) was among
the players honored.
Bolton was one of 30 players to be named to the honorable mention
team and was one of 40 total players honored. Her selection
is W&L’s first to the WBCA All-America team and just the
second All-America selection in program history, joining Jessica
Mentz ‘02, who was selected to the 2002 Division III News
Honorable Mention team.
Bolton started all 28 games this season for the Generals, leading
the team with averages of 15.1 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. A
First Team All-ODAC honoree and ODAC All-Tournament team selection,
she was also tabbed to the D3Hoops.com Third Team All-Region
Squad.
Bolton recorded a program-record 15 double-doubles and finished her
sophomore campaign with 424 points, the fourth-best season total in
program history. She also finished third on the school’s
single-season list for free throws made (133) and attempted (169)
as she hit 78.7 percent of her charity tosses.
Additionally, Bolton shot nearly 50 percent (.487) from the field
and she grabbed a total of 305 rebounds, just two shy of the
program record for most rebounds in a season. Also representing the
ODAC was Randolph-Macon senior center Molly Ariail, who was named
to the 10-member All-America squad.
Washington and Lee finished the 2009-10 campaign with an 18-10
overall record and a 14-6 league mark, both program-bests. The
third-seeded Generals captured the program’s first-ever ODAC
title with wins over Guilford, Eastern Mennonite and Virginia
Wesleyan before advancing to the NCAA Division III tournament,
where they fell to Christopher Newport in first-round action.
