W&L Women's Basketball Falls to PLNU, 86-47

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Point Loma
Nazarene forced 37 turnovers and closed the first half on a 19-6
run in posting an 86-47 victory over Washington and Lee in the
championship game of the Surf N Slam Small College Women’s
Basketball Classic on Wednesday evening.
The Generals (2-4) trailed just 24-20 with 8:43 remaining in the
opening stanza, but the Sea Lions used the half-closing run that
included 12 points from junior guard Amanda Franz for a 43-26 lead
at the break.
PLNU continued to stretch its
advantage in the second half en route to its 11th win in 12 games
this season. W&L held a 39-30 advantage on the boards, but
could not overcome the turnovers and 28.0 percent (7-25) shooting
over the final 20 minutes.
Sophomore forward Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central)
led the Generals with 16 points and 11 rebounds en route to earning
all-tournament team honors. Sophomore guard Meg Ingram (Greensboro,
N.C./Ragsdale) chipped in 11 points and five boards, while
sophomore forward Kari Ann Pfannenstein (Littleton, Colo./Heritage)
contributed seven points and four rebounds.
The Sea Lions were paced by Franz and senior forward Colleen
Planeta, who scored 22 points each. Senior guard Liah Ector added
14 markers.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday when it travels to
24th-ranked Randolph-Macon for a 2:00 pm contest.
