CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team totaled 10 points to finish seventh out of eight teams at the University of Virginia IHSA Invitational on Saturday.
UVA won the invite with 39 points, while Randolph totaled 37 points for second and Hollins claimed third with 23 markers.
Senior Jane Chiavelli (Ashland, Mass. / St. Mark's School) led the way for the Generals with a third place finish in the open equitation over fences. First-year Curry Sherard (Spartanburg, S.C. / Spartanburg Day School) placed fourth in the intermediate over fences.
Chiavelli finished the year tied for third in the individual high point rider with 60 points.
Sophomores Dani Powers (McKenney, Va. / Dinwiddie) and Lauren Fredericks (Los Gatos, Calif. / Los Gatos) will both be competing in the walk-trot at the zone regionals, while sophomore Hannah Witherell (Shirley, Mass. / Francis W. Parker Charter Essential) will compete in the walk-trot-canter. Sophomore Charlotte Radcliffe (Lancaster, Pa. / J.P. McCaskey) will compete in the intermediate equitation over fences and Chiavelli will participate in the open equitation over fences at regionals.
W&L will compete in the IHSA Regionals on Sunday at UVA.
