CHARLOTESVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team totaled 23 points to finish seventh at the University of Virginia IHSA Invitational co-hosted by W&L on Saturday.
UVA won the invite with 36 points, while Hollins placed second with 33 points. Randolph and Lynchburg tied for fourth with 28 points each. James Madison (25) and Roanoke (10) completed the team results.
The Generals placed in 10 of 12 events and had three Top 3 finishes.
Sophomore Lauren Fredericks (Los Gatos, Calif. / Los Gatos) placed first in the walk-trot. Junior SarahCate Harrison (Tampa, Fla. / Wharton) was the Reserve Champion in the intermediate flat, while first-year Mischa Biszick (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial) earned Reserve Champion in the novice flat.
W&L also had multiple Top 5 finishes, with first-year Curry Sherard (Spartanburg, S.C. / Spartanburg Day School) placing fourth in the intermediate equitation over fences. Harrison and sophomore Charlotte Radcliffe (Lancaster, Pa. / J.P. McCaskey) tied for fourth in the novice equitation over fences. Senior Jane Chiavelli (Ashland, Mass. / St. Mark's School) took fourth in the open equitation on the flat and senior Ben Whedon (Corning, N.Y. / Corning East) placed fourth in the walk-trot.
The Blue and White is in eighth place in the regional team standings with 33 points. Randolph leads the standings with 68 markers, and Hollins and UVA are tied for second with 65 points.
Washington and Lee returns to action on October 28 when it competes at the Bridgewater/JMU IHSA Invitational.
