AMHERST, Va. – The Washington and Lee equestrian team finished its fall season with a fourth-place finish out of 10 teams on Saturday at the Sweet Briar/Lynchburg IHSA Invitational.
Bridgewater took first with 36 points, while Lynchburg placed second with 35 points. UVA finished with 32 points, and W&L and Hollins tied for fourth with 29 markers each.
The Generals had seven Top 3 showings and placed in 11 of 12 events, with first-year Charlotte Radcliffe (Lancaster, Pa. / J.P. McCaskey) taking first in the novice equitation over fences.
Senior Caleigh Wells (Calabasas, Calif. / Louisville) placed second in the open equitation over fences, and junior Jane Chiavelli (Ashland, Mass. / St. Mark's School) took third in the event. Chiavelli also had a third-place showing in the open equitation on the flat.
Senior Parrish Preston (Nashville, Tenn. / Montgomery Bell Academy) earned second-place in the walk-trot-canter 2A and first-year Dani Powers (McKenney, Va. / Dinwiddie) placed second in the walk-trot. Senior Jenny Lee (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial) placed third in the walk-trot-canter 2B.
W&L currently ranks fifth in the regional team standings with 110 points. Bridgewater is first with 141 points, while UVA is second with 124 points. Randolph (121), Hollins (117) and W&L round out the Top 5.
With the end of the fall season, the Generals will return to action on February 11 at the Randolph IHSA Invitational.
