Two W&L Riders Qualify for Regionals at Hollins Invitational

ROANOKE, Va. -- The Washington and Lee equestrian team had two riders qualify for the IHSA Regional Championships as the Generals finished in fifth place at the Hollins IHSA Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

With her third-place finish in the open over fences division, senior captain Claire Stevenson (Southampton, N.Y. / St. Paul's School) qualified for the regional championship. Stevenson also placed fifth in the open flat event.

Senior captain Maia Robbins (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside School) also added another event to her regional list by placing third in the intermediate over fences division. Earlier in the season, Robbins qualified in the intermediate on the flat event.

Senior Alexandria Vittitow (Louisville, Ky. / Sacred Heart Academy) took home a fourth-place finish in the walk-trot division, while first-years Jennifer Lee (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial) and Laurel Romano (Milford, Ohio / Saint Ursula Academy) placed in the Top 5 in their respective events. Lee finished fifth in the walk-trot-canter and Romano recorded a fifth-place finish in the novice over fences.

The Generals will be back in action tomorrow at the Virginia IHSA Invitational. The select riders that qualified for the regional championships will also start competition tomorrow.
