W&L Equestrian Finishes Fifth at Bridgewater IHSA Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Washington and Lee equestrian team posted four Top 3 finishes en route to a fifth-place finish at the Bridgewater IHSA Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Generas have recorded 185 points over the course of the season to sit in fourth place in the regional standings.

Senior Claire Stevenson (Southampton, N.Y. / St. Paul's School) led the Generals with a first-place finish in the open over fences division, while first-year Ashley Ooms (Whitehouse Station, N.J. / Hunterdon Central Station) and junior Megan Shearer (Columbia, Md. / Notre Dame Prep) placed second in their respective events. Ooms took home second in the intermediate over fences and Shearer placed second in the walk-trot-canter.

First-year Laurel Romano (Milford, Ohio / Saint Ursula Academy) rounded out the Top 3 finishes, taking third place in the novice over fences.

Other top-five performances include third place in intermediate over fences by Stevenson, fourth by first-year Caleigh Wells (Calabasas, Calif. / Louisville) in intermediate over fences, a fourth-place finish in the novice flat by sophomore Haley Miller (Windsor, Colo. / Windsor), a fifth-place finish by senior Maia Robbins (Seattle, Wash. / Lakeside School) in intermediate over fences, a fifth-place finish by senior Shelby Barada (Paget, Bermuda / New Canaan) in the walk-trot, and a fifth-place finish in the open over fences by sophomore Laura Lemon (Roanoke, Va. / North Cross).
