W&L Equestrian Takes Fifth Place at UVA Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee equestrian team finished the regular IHSA season with a fifth-place finish at the University of Virginia IHSA Invitational on Sunday.

Virginia claimed the team title with 41 points, while Sweet Briar recorded 34 points for second and Randolph finished third with 20 points. Bridgewater (16), W&L (13), Hollins (11), Lynchburg (11), James Madison (9), Longwood (8), Radford (6), Mary Baldwin (4) and Roanoke (3) wrapped up the team results.

Two third-place performances highlighted the Generals' day. Senior Molly Rountree (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) registered third in the open flat and first-year Laura Lemon (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) took third place in the intermediate flat.

Other top placings included first-year Sara Cook (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) finishing in fourth place in the intermediate over fences and sophomore Megan Shearer (Columbia, Md./Notre Dame Prep) claiming fifth place in the walk-trot. Shearer's performance in the walk-trot qualified her for IHSA Zone 4 Regionals, also taking place on Sunday.

Those Generals who qualified throughout the season also competed at the IHSA Zone 4 Regionals later that evening.
