W&L Riding Places Fifth at Bridgewater IHSA Invite

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Washington and Lee equestrian team claimed fifth place with 25 points at the Bridgewater IHSA Invitational on Saturday.

Randolph took the team title with 42 total points. Bridgewater finished second with 39 points and Sweet Briar recorded 36 points for third place. Virginia (31), W&L (25), James Madison (19), Hollins (14), Roanoke (14), Mary Baldwin (10), Lynchburg (6), Longwood (5) and Radford (4) rounded out the team results.

Sophomore Charlotte Magee (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin) claimed the highest individual placing for the Generals, taking second place in the novice flat. Sophomore Megan Shearer (Columbia, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and sophomore Ainsley Bloomer (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) each placed in third place in their respective section of the walk-trot, and first-year Sara Cook (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) also came in third in the intermediate over fences.

Five others registered fourth-place performances. Sophomore Rachel Christensen (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) claimed fourth in walk-trot-canter, senior Molly Rountree (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) took fourth in the open flat and junior Claire Stevenson (Southampton, N.Y./St. Paul's School) placed fourth in the open over fences. First-year Laura Lemon (Roanoke, Va./North Cross) was fourth in the intermediate flat, while Magee notched fourth in the novice over fences.

Other top performances include, fifth place by senior Stephanie Malaska (Redmond, Wash./Eastside Catholic) in the intermediate flat, sixth in the open over fences for Rountree, first-year Haley Miller (Windsor, Colo./Windsor) coming in sixth in the novice over fences and a sixth-place finish by sophomore Stephanie Banning (Bothell, Wash./Henry M. Jackson) in the beginner section of walk-trot-canter.

W&L returns to action on February 23 to compete at the Hollins IHSA Invitational.
