W&L Riding Records Two Event Wins at Hollins Invite

ROANOKE, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team recorded 31 points for fifth place at the Hollins IHSA Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Bridgewater took the top spot with 39 points, while Hollins finished runner-up with 35 points. Lynchburg (32), James Madison (32), W&L (31), Virginia (30), Sweet Briar (28), Randolph (18), Radford (15), Longwood (14) and Roanoke (10) rounded out the results.

Junior Claire Stevenson (Southampton, N.Y./St. Paul's School) and sophomore Sarah Ward (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) each registered first-place performances on the day. Stevenson won open over fences and Ward took first in novice flat.

Senior Stephanie Malaska (Redmond, Wash./Eastside Catholic) finished second in intermediate over fences, while sophomore Megan Shearer (Columbia, Md./Notre Dame Prep) placed third in walk-trot.

Other performances include a third-place finish by senior Molly Rountree (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) in open over fences, fourth place in intermediate flat by Stevenson and sophomore Rachel Christensen (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) taking fourth place in the beginner section of walk-trot-canter.

The Generals return to action on November 3, when they compete at the Bridgewater IHSA Invitational.
