W&L's Morse Named High Point Rider Champion at UVA IHSA

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Senior rider Tamara Morse (Bristow, Va./Brentsville) was named the UVA IHSA High Point Rider Champion to lead the Washington and Lee riding team on Saturday at the UVA IHSA Invitational.

With the UVA High Point Rider results, Morse was able to clinch her second consecutive Cacchione Cup, recording 75 total points over the course of the season and beating out second-place Emma Poole from Hollins by four points.

The Generals posted a fourth-place finish at the invitational with 20 points on the day. Lynchburg was the champion, turning in a 28-point team performance, and Hollins came in a close second (27) to take Reserve Champion. Randolph (23), W&L (20), Bridgewater (18), Sweet Briar (18), UVA (18), JMU (17), Radford (4), Longwood (3) and May Baldwin (0) rounded out the team results.

In the open flat, Morse finished in first place and registered the only win of the day for W&L. She also was second in the open over fences.

First-year Sarah Ward (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) earned second place in the novice flat and first-year Megan Shearer (Columbia, Md./Notre Dame Prep) placed fourth in the walk-trot.
