W&L's Morse Takes Reserve Champion at Hollins IHSA in Riding
ROANOKE, Va -- The Washington and Lee riding team turned in a seventh-place finish, including a Reserve Champion High Point Rider award by senior Tamara Morse, at the Hollins IHSA Invitational on Saturday.
Morse posted a winning performance in the open flat and was runner-up in the open over fences. After the weekend's competition, Morse sits first in the Cacchione Cup Individual Rider standings with 63 total points.
W&L recorded 23 team points to take seventh. Hollins was named Champion with 42 points, and Bridgewater and Sweet Briar tied for Reserve Champion, each with 36 points. Lynchburg (34), UVA (27), Randolph (25), W&L (23), JMU (22), Radford (7), Longwood (4) and Roanoke (2) wrapped up the team results.
First-year Charlotte Keesler (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle Regional) competed in the open over fences and intermediate flat, recording fourth and sixth place, respectively. Junior Molly Rountree (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) finished fifth in both the open flat and the intermediate over fences. Sophomore Maia Robbins (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside School) also took fifth in the intermediate over fences.
In the walk-trot-canter, first-year Sarah Ward (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) finished second and junior Mary Galbraith (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) came in sixth. Junior Gina Bufton took fifth in the novice over fences and sophomore Juli Sorenson (Spring Valley, Calif./Grossmont) was fifth in the novice flat.
The Generals return to action on February 25, when they travel to the University of Virginia to compete at the IHSA Regionals.
