W&L Riding Takes Second in Collegiate Cup

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team finished second or better in five of six events as it captured a second-place finish at the Virginia Intermont Classic Collegiate Cup on Saturday evening at the Virginia Horse Center.

The Virginia Intermont 'B' team won the competition, finishing with 487 points, followed by W&L (484), Virginia Intermont 'A' (475), Hollins (474) and the University of Virginia (461) in the top five. Madeira School 'A' (402), Madeira School 'B' (319) and Wake Forest University (302) rounded out the teams in the field.

Leading the way for the Generals was senior Allison Lemon (Roanoke, Va./North Cross School), who earned high scorer honors in the intermediate over fences and intermediate flat events. Sophomore Molly Rountree (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) collected second-place finishes in the novice over fences and novice flat, while junior Tamara Morse (Bristow, Va./Brentsville) took second in the open flat and sixth in the open over fences.

Earlier in the day in open competition, Morse won the VHSA/EMO Insurance Adult Medal, while Lemon took top honors in the Ariat National Adult Medal, earned the reserve championship in the Adult Hunters and placed second in the Adult Hunter Classic.

W&L returns to action on April 8 as it takes part in the ODAC Riding Championship.
