CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team participated on Sunday morning in the University of Virginia "Team Only" IHSA Invitational held at The Barracks.
Washington and Lee placed eighth overall out of the 11 teams that participated, with Hollins claiming top honors with 34 total points.
The "team only" format involved each team electing just one rider to compete in each division. Junior Tamara Morse (Bristow, Va./Brentsville) and sophomore Molly Rountree (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) were the only Generals to garner a top finish in the event. Morse placed fourth in the open flat and second in the open fences, while Rountree finished sixth in the intermediate fences.
The competition for the Cacchione Cup came down to the final ride of the regular season, with Morse looking to hold on to her top ranking in the region. Needing at least a third-place showing in the open fences to out-distance Lynchburg's Kelly Gerland for the Cup, Morse finished second overall in earning the regional Cacchione Cup and the opportunity to participate at the IHSA National Championships held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., on May 5-8.
