W&L Riding Opens Spring Season at Randolph Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team opened its spring season with a seventh-place finish at the Randolph College and Lynchburg College ISHA Invitational held at the Randolph College Riding Center on Friday.

Host Randolph won the invitational, collecting 33 points, followed by Bridgewater (28) and James Madison (26) in the top three. Lynchburg, Hollins and Sweet Briar finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with 23 points, with W&L (22), UVA (14), Longwood (7) and Radford (2) rounding-out the top 10.

W&L was paced by two top finishes, with senior Caitlin McCurdy (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) taking the top spot in the novice equitation on the flat, while first-year Juli Sorenson (Spring Valley, Calif./Grossmont) was best in the walk-trot-canter.

Additional top finishes for the Generals included sophomore Stephanie Malaska (Redmond, Wash./Eastside Catholic) taking second in the intermediate equitation on the flat, first-year Maia Robbins (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside School) finishing third in the intermediate equitation over fences and senior Elsa Friis (Brookeville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) claiming the third spot in the novice equitation on the flat.

Rounding-out W&L's top performers were junior Tamara Morse (Bristow, Va./Brentsville), who took fourth in the open equitation on the flat and sixth in the open equitation over fences, and junior Camille Cobb (Huntersville, N.C./Harding University) finishing fifth in the walk-trot.
