W&L's Morse Finishes as High Point Rider at Sweet Briar Invite

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Washington and Lee junior rider Tamara Morse (Bristow, Va./Brentsville) finished as the high point rider in helping the W&L riding team finish fifth at the Sweet Briar ISHA Invitational at the Rogers Riding Center on Sunday afternoon.

Bridgewater College won the invitational, followed by Hollins (31), Sweet Briar (30), Lynchburg (30) and W&L (28) in the top five. The standings were completed by James Madison (20), University of Virginia (20), Roanoke (13), Longwood (12), Randolph (9) and Radford (7).

Morse claimed the high point rider distinction after winning the open equitation over fences and the open equitation on the flat. With the win she also jumped to the top of the Cacchione Cup individual high point rider standings.

W&L also received second-place finishes from sophomore Molly Rountree (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) in the intermediate equitation over fences and sophomore Gina Bufton (Preston, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) in the novice equitation over fences.

Rounding-out a strong showing by the Generals were a trio fifth-place finishes; With senior Elsa Friis (Brookeville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) in the novice equitation on the flat, first-year Juli Sorenson (Spring Valley, Calif./Grossmont) in the walk-trot-canter and junior Camille Cobb (Huntersville, N.C./Harding University) in the walk-trot.

The Generals return to action on Saturday at the Bridgewater ISHA Invitational.
