W&L Riding Finishes Fourth at Sweet Briar Invitational
SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team
finished tied for fourth out of 12 teams at the Sweet Briar
Invitational held on Sunday afternoon.
Randolph College won the event with 36 points, followed by Sweet
Briar (35) and Hollins (33) in the top three. W&L was part of a
three-way tie with Bridgewater and the University of Virginia for
fourth place with 26 points. Lynchburg College (20), Roanoke
College (14), Radford University (11), James Madison University
(10), Longwood (5) and Liberty College (1) rounded-out the
standings.
The Generals were led by sophomore Tamara Morse (Bristow,
Va./Brentsville), who finished first in the open on the flat and
first-year Collier McLeod (Augusta, Va./Augusta Prep), who took the
intermediate over fences. With her top finish on the flat, Morse
qualified for the regional championships in the event and remains
second in the standings for the Cacchione Cup, which is awarded to
the top regional rider at the end of the season.
The Generals will return to action on Sunday as they travel to
Hollins.
