ELSAH, Ill. — Competing in a field stacked with ranked teams for the pre-nationals meet, the Washington and Lee men's cross country team finished 21st out of 38 schools at the Cowbell Classic hosted by Principia College on Saturday.
Top-ranked North Central took first with 47 points, second-ranked SUNY Geneseo was second (150 points) and fifth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer claimed third (156 points). The Generals totaled 579 points.
Senior Isaac Garcia-Cassani of SUNY Geneseo was the top individual out of 354 runners with a time of 24:41.02 on the 8k course. Junior Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day), competing in his first race this season, crossed the finish line in 54th in 26:07.88.
Junior Hank Patrick (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory School) took 95th (26:36.96), and sophomore Austin Kinne (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) was 127th with a time of 26:51.97. First-year Freddie Marx (Greensboro, N.C./Walter Hines Page) placed 194th in 27:39.96, and junior Joe Carmody (Clive, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) was the fifth scorer for the Blue and White in 198th (27:41.74).
The Generals next compete at the ODAC Championship on Saturday, October 28, at Virginia Wesleyan at 12:00 pm.
