Patrick Leads W&L Men's XC to Second at Commonwealth Challenge

WINCHESTER, Va. — First-year Hank Patrick (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory School) finished third out of 73 runners to lead a select group of runners from the Washington and Lee men's cross country team to second place out of nine teams at the Commonwealth Challenge hosted by Shenandoah on Saturday.

Shenandoah took home the team title with 47 points, while the Generals totaled 52 points. Eastern Mennonite claimed third with 76 points.

Patrick crossed the finish line in 19:52.2 in the 6K race, while Justin Mehrer of Shenandoah won in 19:26.50. First-year Patrick Hunter (Harrisburg, N.C./Cannon School) was seventh overall with a time of 20:10.30, and junior Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) took 10th in 20:23.20.

First-year Joe Carmody (Clive, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) placed 15th with a time of 20:49.50, and sophomore Nate Scinta (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) rounded out the scoring for W&L in 18th (20:58.20).

The Generals return to action Saturday, October 3, at the Mike Woods Invitational hosted by SUNY Geneseo.
