HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. — Led by first-year Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va./Trinity Episcopal School), the Washington and Lee men's cross country team finished third at the ODAC Championship hosted by Hampden-Sydney on Saturday. It marked the best finish for the Generals since taking third in 2009.
Bridgewater won the championship with 50 points, Lynchburg placed second (88 points) and W&L totaled 97 points.
Strehler took fifth (26:45.10) to earn First Team All-ODAC honors, and was named the Rookie of the Year. Strehler is W&L's first Rookie of the Year since Alex Mahoney claimed the honor in 2004. Senior Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) crossed the finish line 18th with a time of 28:01.20.
Sophomore Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) took 21st in 28:09.90 and first-year Phillip Harmon (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) came in 25th with a time of 28:51.20. First-year Christopher Cardon (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) rounded out the scoring in 30th (29:15.40).
Andris Goncarovs of Guilford was the individual champion with a time of 26:19.50 and Chad Norton of Guilford came in second at 26:20.40.
The Generals next compete at the NCAA South/Southeast Regionals hosted Christopher Newport on November 16.
