LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's cross country team claimed two of the top three finishers en route to winning the Generals Invitational on Saturday morning at the Dick Miller Cross Country Course.
W&L finished with 42 total points and finished seven points ahead of St. Mary's (Md.), who placed second.
Eastern Mennonite junior Ryan Gehman (Millersville, Pa. / Lancaster Mennonite) took the top spot in the men's race with a time of 28:22.80. W&L first-year Mac Strehler (Moseley, Va. / Trinity Episcopal School) placed second overall when he crossed the finish line in 28:40.00. Senior Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash. / Shorewood) finished in 28:45.10 to claim third-place.
Overall, the Generals placed four runners in the Top 12 as first-year Ian McDonald (Richmond, Va. / Douglas S. Freeman) placed seventh with a time of 29:20.60 and sophomore Jacob Strauss (Great Falls, Mont. / Great Falls) completed the course in 30:03.60 to finish in 12th-place.
Washington and Lee returns to action on September 21, when it participates in the Eastern Mennonite/Bridgewater Invitational in Elkton, Va. The race begins at 10:30 am.
