CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Competing against 21 other schools, the Washington and Lee men's cross country team placed fifth at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday. The Generals totaled 150 points with DeSales taking the top spot with 35. Franklin & Marshall finished second at 44, Oswego State took third at 129 and King's (Pa.) was fourth with 147.
Junior Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash.) had his third Top-10 finish of the year, taking seventh in 27:28.52. He was five seconds behind the sixth-place finisher. First-year Levi Warring (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) was the next W&L runner to cross the finish line in 29th at 28:22.57.
Sophomore Scott Sugden (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) took 37th at 28:36.52, senior Tyler Gehrs (Alexandria, Va./St. Andrews) placed 42nd in 28:43.77 and sophomore James Busch (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) finished 55th with a time of 29:03.87 to round out the scoring.
The DeSales Invitational was the final meet before the Generals compete at the Old Dominion Athletics Conference Championship at Peakview Farms in Harrisonburg, Va., on October 27. W&L ran at the same venue in the ODAC Preview on August 31, and finished third of 10 teams.
