SEGUIN, Texas -- The Washington and Lee men's cross country team took part in the NCAA South/Southeast Regional meet at Texas Lutheran University and came away with a 17th-place finish out of 23 teams on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals were paced by senior Matt Gossett (Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan), who crossed the finish line in 54th place out of 174 runners with a team-best time of 28:16.2.
Gossett was followed by a trio of W&L harriers separated by just nine places. Senior Robert Warneford-Thomson (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) took 80th overall with a time of 28:51.6, followed closely by junior Tyler Gehrs (Alexandria, Va./St. Andrews) in 83rd with a time of 28:59.5 and senior Ryan Henner (Avondale Estates, Ga./Chamblee), who ran 29:08.9 for an 80th-place finish.
First-year Michael Bronstein (Canton, Mass./Canton) posted a time of 29:41.9 to finish in 104th place and junior James Grasso (Old Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) rounded out the W&L competitors with a 117th-place finish with a time of 30:36.4.
The Generals have now concluded their 2011 season.
