CARLISLE, Pa. – The Washington and Lee men's cross country team took part in the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational on Saturday afternoon, placing 11th out of 16 teams in the combined event.
Half of the Generals' team took part in a standard 8k race, while the other half of the team took part in a 4k with their scores from each race being combined for an overall team score.
In the 4k, the Generals were led by senior Matt Gossett (Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan), who placed 36th with a time of 13:31. He was followed by junior Tyler Gehrs (Alexandria, Va./St. Andrew's), who placed 37th (13:34) and senior Robert Warneford-Thomson (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal), who finished in 54th with a time of 13:54.
In the long portion of the event, W&L was paced by senior Ryan Henner (Avondale Estates, Ga./Chamblee), who finished in 30th place with a time of 28:15. Junior James Grasso (Old Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day) finished in a time of 29:42 for a 61st-place finish and first-year Scott Sugden (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) added a 71st-place finish in 30:04.
Combined, the Generals totaled 289 points to earn their 11th-place finish.
W&L returns to action on Friday when it takes part in the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational beginning at 1:45 pm.
