W&L Men's Cross Country Finishes 18th at NCAA Regionals

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Washington and Lee men's cross country team ran to an 18th-place finish out of 23 squads at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Cross Country Championship, hosted by Rhodes College, on Saturday afternoon.

Lynchburg College claimed the regional championship, finishing with a total of 73 points, followed by Centre (105), Rhodes (110), Trinity-Texas (145) and Emory (201) in the top five. W&L finished with 387 points.

Senior Rob George (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) was W&L's top finisher as he took 70th place in a time of 27:23. He was immediately followed by junior Ryan Henner (Avondale Estates, Ga./Chamblee), who finished just one second behind in 71st place.

The Generals other scoring runners included junior Matt Gossett (Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan School) and senior Jack Ivy (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) finishing in 79th and 80th, respectively, with an identical time of 27:33 and junior Robert Warneford-Thompson (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) in 87th place (27:46).

With its 18th place finish, W&L concluded its 2010 campaign.
