LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee Junior Matt Gossett (Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan School) won the men's portion of the W&L Cross Country Invitational en route to leading the Generals to a runner-up finish on Saturday morning at the Dick Miller Cross Country Course.
Roanoke claimed the men's team title with 29 points, while W&L finished with 45 points.
Gossett was one of three W&L runners to finish in the Top 10 as he won the race with a time of 28:56. Sophomore Tyler Gehrs (Alexandria, Va./St. Andrews) took fifth with a time of 29:21 and first-year Kane Thomas (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood) placed sixth with a time of 29:24.
W&L's scoring five was rounded out by senior Rob George (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South), who finished in 16th place with a time of 30:34, and junior Robert Warneford-Thomson (Richmond, Va./Trinity), who placed 19th in 31:02.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as part of the Dickinson Invitational beginning at 10:30 am.
