W&L Men's and Women's XC in Action at NCAA Regionals
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee men’s and
women’s cross country teams were in action on Saturday
morning at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional hosted by Guilford
College. The W&L women placed fifth out of 27 teams, while the
men finished eighth out of 24 squads.
Individually for the women, senior Kat Telfeyan (Chesapeake,
Va./Great Bridge) qualified for the NCAA National Championships and
earned all-region honors with a 12th-place finish (24:22). She was
joined on the all-region squad by senior Sarah Keckler (Gardners,
Pa./Home Schooled) and first-year Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton,
Mass./Hopkinton), who finished in 23rd- and 30th-place,
respectively. Keckler completed the course in 24:54, while Schultz
finished in 25:01.
Other top finishers for the W&L women included senior Dorothy
Todd (Watkinsville, Ga./Athens Academy) and first-year Molly Ortiz
(Ketchikan, Alaska/Ketchikan). Todd placed 48th in a time of 25:49,
while Ortiz finished 60th with a time of 26:08.
For the W&L men, first-year Harrison Tucker (Richmond, Va./St.
Christopher’s) earned all-region accolades with a 24th-place
finish, crossing the finish line in 28:22. Junior Rob George
(Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) finished in 49th-place with a
time of 29:09, sophomore Ryan Henner (Avondale Estates,
Ga./Chamblee) placed 52nd overall with a time of 29:15 and
sophomore Robert Warneford-Thomson (Richmond, Va./Trinity
Episcopal) crossed the finish line in 56th-place (29:25).
Other top finishers for the men included senior Ben Stutts
(Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills), who finished 67th overall
(29:45) and junior Evan Sharber (Chattanooga, Tenn./Baylor School),
who finished 81st overall (30:17).
The W&L men have now completed their season, while Telfeyan
will advance to the NCAA National Championships, which will be held
on Saturday at 11:00 am in Berea, Ohio.
