W&L Claims ODAC Cross Country Runner of the Week Awards

SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee seniors Jessica Shaw (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) and Michael Welsh (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma) have been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Cross Country Runners of the Week for the week ending October 19.

Shaw received the women's award for the third time this season after leading the W&L women's cross country team to a ninth-place finish out of 27 teams at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday morning. Shaw completed the course in a season-best time of 22:14 en route to placing 13th overall out of 232 runners.

Welsh was the men's honoree after helping W&L to a 16th-place finish out of 30 teams at the same meet. Welsh finished 41st overall out of 271 runners with a career-best time of 25:46.

Both the W&L men and women will return to action on Sat., Nov. 1 as they participate in the ODAC Championships hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College.
