WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Washington and Lee men's track and field team competed at the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track on Saturday. The meet featured Division I, II and III schools.
First-year Shep Sims (Charleston, W.Va./Woodberry Forest School) took fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.35m (14'3.25"). Senior Davis Turner (East Point, Ga./The Howard School) tied for fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.82m (5'11.50").
In the shot put, first-year Jay Roberts (Whitwell, Tenn./McCallie) took seventh (first in DIII) with a toss of 13.33m (43'9.00"). First-year Andrew Creel (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) was right behind him in eighth at 12.63m (41'5.25"). Creel also registered a career-best toss in the weight throw at 12.41m (40'8.75").
Sophomore Drew Pranka (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) placed sixth (first in DIII) in the 60m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.58. Senior Jake Roberts (Kansas City, Mo./The Barstow School) claimed eighth (second in DIII) in the 800m in a season-best time of 1:58.66.
In the mile, sophomore Cooper Baird (Fort Worth, Texas/Fort Worth Country Day) recorded a career-best time (4:22.90), while placing eighth (first in DIII). Sophomore Carter Huffman (Sophia, N.C./South Western Randolph) was ninth (first in DIII) in the 400m (51.36).
The Blue and White had two runners register personal bests in the 3,000m. First-year Austin Kinne (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) crossed the finish line in 9:05.66, and sophomore Alex Dolwick (Apex, N.C./GRACE Christian School) finished in 9:09.64.
The Generals next compete at the Indoor ODAC Championship hosted by Roanoke on Sunday, February 26.
