LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's track and field team had two individual ODAC Champions on Saturday and won both relays. The Generals finished third overall (138.5 points) at the 2013 ODAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Wilson Field. Lynchburg took home the team title with 175.5 points and Bridgewater claimed second at 147.66 points.
The Generals took three of the Top 5 spots in the 400m, with junior Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood) leading the way. Tallman earned First Team All-ODAC honors with his winning time of 48.51. Junior Parker Howard (Naperville, Ill./Nequea Valley) placed fourth in 50.67 and first-year Thomas Dunbar (Jackson, Miss./Jackson Prep) was fifth (50.71).
Tallman led the team again in the 200m, in which three competitors scored. Tallman crossed the finish line second at 22.08, junior Cole Glasgow (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) came in fourth at 22.52 and sophomore Aaron Jeong (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) finished sixth with a time of 22.80. Jeong and Glasgow also placed in the 100m. Jeong garnered All-ODAC honors with a second-place finish (11.01) and Glasgow placed sixth (11.22).
The Blue and White took the Top 3 spots in the javelin. Sophomore Eddie Barnes (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) won the event with a throw of 58.35m (191'05.00"), senior Dylan Mills (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul's) was second at 56.69m (186'00.00") and junior Kevin Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass./Tabor) was third with a throw of 53.36m (175'00.00"). All three competitors earned All-ODAC honors. Barnes also came in fifth in the discus at 39.21m (128'07.00")
Junior Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) placed in three individual events on Saturday. He finished second in the 400H (55.64), fifth in the 110H (16.18) and tied for fifth in the pole vault at 3.61m (11'10.00"). Also in the pole vault, junior David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) came in fourth at 4.06m (13'03.75"). First-year Austin Peterson (El Cajon, Calif./West Hills) placed sixth in the 110H with a time of 16.45.
In the 800m, W&L finished second and fourth. Senior Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum) claimed second and All-ODAC honors in 1:56.52, and junior Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) crossed the finish line fourth with a time of 1:57.82.
The 4x100m relay of junior Agustin Kim (La Habra, Calif./Troy), Glasgow, Jeong and Tallman garnered First Team All-ODAC honors in capturing the title with a time of 41.92. The quartet of Howard, Tallman, Myers and Dunbar won the 4x400m title (3:19.64) to earn All-ODAC accolades.
Pete Monteleone of Bridgewater was named the Rookie of the Meet, Doug Thomasey of Lynchburg was the Coach of the Year, Chad Norton of Guilford was the Athlete of the Meet and Tim Wisniewski of Bridgewater was the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete.
The Generals return to action next Saturday, April 27, at the Paul Kaiser Invitational hosted by Shippensburg.
