Men's Track and Field Picked Third in ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2012-13 men’s indoor track and field preseason coaches’ poll on Friday, and Washington and Lee received 38 points and one first-place vote to take third out of eight schools.

Defending indoor league champion Lynchburg collected the seven remaining first-place votes and 49 total points to lead the voting. Bridgewater came in second with 41 points. Roanoke is fourth with 30 points with Virginia Wesleyan (23), Eastern Mennonite (15), Guilford (14) and Shenandoah (14) rounding out the poll.

W&L returns 24 athletes from last season, highlighted by NCAA Indoor National qualifier Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood). The junior advanced to the Indoor NCAA Championship in the 400 meters, after earning the 2012 ODAC Indoor Athlete of the Meet honor. Tallman became the first W&L athlete to advance to the indoor championship in 22 years. At ODAC's, he won both the 200m and the 400m. Junior Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) also returns after scoring in six events at the ODAC meet, including second-place finishes in the 400m and the triple jump.

The Generals bring in 13 newcomers to the team. The returners and the new faces begin their season this weekend at the Liberty Kick Off.
