LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's track and field team captured third place out of eight teams at the 2012 ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday on the campus of Lynchburg College.
Lynchburg's men's team took the ODAC crown after recording 216 total points over the two-day championship. Bridgewater (122), W&L (75), Shenandoah (67), Roanoke (55), Guilford (39), Virginia Wesleyan (39) and Eastern Mennonite (7) wrapped up with team results.
Sophomore Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood) led the Generals with two first-place finishes on the day, defending both his 200m and 400m titles from the indoor season. Tallman recorded a time of 21.56 seconds in the 200m for the win and a new ODAC Championship meet record, and ran a 48.46 in the 400m.
Tallman also joined sophomores Agustin Kim (La Habra, Calif./Troy) and Parker Howard (Naperville, Ill./Nequea Valley) and first-year Aaron Jeong (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) to form the 4x100m relay team that finished in 42.82 to take second place.
Sophomore Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) and first-year Christian Croft (Martinez, Ga./Augusta Christian) each posted multiple top-six finishes in the field events. In the long jump, Croft finished fourth (6.41m) with Myers was right behind in fifth (6.37m). The pair also took fourth and fifth in the triple jump with Croft in fourth (13.06m) and Myers in fifth (12.61m). Myers also added a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.86 m, and a fifth-place performance in the javelin (49.37m).
Senior Tyler Grant (Suwanee, Ga./South Forsyth) and Myers grabbed All-ODAC honors in the 400m hurdles as they finished third (55.43) and second (54.90) in the event, respectively. Sophomore Kevin Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass./Tabor) received All-ODAC laurels with a throw of 49.85m in the javelin for third place.
Other top performances include sophomore David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) in the pole vault (4th, 4.02m), sophomore Jordan Yost (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) in the hammer (5th, 39.79m), first-year Eddie Barnes (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) in the discus (6th, 36.80m), senior Matt Gossett (Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan) in the 1500m (6th, 4:05.86) and Jeong in the 100m (6th, 11.17).
The Generals return to action on May 3 when they travel to Liberty for the Liberty Twilight.
