LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's track & field team took second place at the 2012 ODAC Indoor Championships held at Liberty University on Friday evening.
The Generals repeated their second-place finish from a year ago, totaling 78 points. Lynchburg won the meet with 141 points, followed by W&L, Bridgewater (58), Virginia Wesleyan (54), Guilford (48), Roanoke (44), Shenandoah (38) and Eastern Mennonite (4).
W&L was led by sophomore Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook Kingwood), who repeated his 2011 Athlete of the Meet award by capturing the 2012 honor. He successfully defended his titles in both the 200m and the 400m. He posted a winning time of 22.40 in the 200m and recorded a 49.55 in the 400m in earning First Team All-ODAC honors in each event.
Tallman's win in the 400m highlighted a strong W&L contingent in the event, as sophomore Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) took second (51.46) and earned second team all-conference laurels, junior Steven Colliau (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) captured third (52.10) to earn third team all-conference honors and sophomore Mac Keers (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) took fifth with a time of 52.35.
Myers also took fifth in the 200m (23.25) and the 60m hurdles (8.88), while recording a second-place finish in the triple jump (13.06 meters) and third-place marks in the high jump (1.82 meters) and long jump (6.33 meters) in racking up three more All-ODAC honors.
Also scoring for the Generals were sophomore Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shoreline), who earned third team all-league honors with a third-place finish in the 800m (1:58.72). Sophomore Jonathan Sells (Brandon, Fla./C. Leon King) added a fifth-place finish in the long jump (6.09 meters) and sophomore David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) tied for fourth in the pole vault, clearing 3.90 meters.
First-year Aaron Jeong (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) took sixth in the 60m (7.14), senior Matt Gossett (Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan) was sixth in the mile (4:28.95) and sophomore Jordan Yost (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) was fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.83 meters.
Finally, the distance medley relay team of Thomas, first-year Alex Smith (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park), sophomore Parker Howard (Naperville, Ill./Nequea Valley) and senior Tyler Grant (Suwanee, Ga./South Forsyth) finished in sixth place with a time of 11:03.49.
The Generals are slated to return to action on Thursday when they take part at the CNU Last Chance meet.
