MARIETTA, Ohio -- Washington and Lee's men's track & field team opened up 2012 competing in the Marietta Open on Saturday afternoon and came away with 10 Top 5 finishes and four event wins in the first meet of the new year.
Sophomore Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) captured a pair of individual events and was a member of the winning 4x400m relay team to lead the Generals. He won the 200m in 22.84, narrowly missing the school record of 22.78. He also captured the 400m with a time of 50.05, just missing his own school record of 49.96 in that event.
Tallman also anchored the 4x400m relay team of junior Steven Colliau (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena), sophomore Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) and sophomore Mac Keers (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) which won with a time of 3:30.86.
Finishing just behind Tallman in the 400m were Myers (2nd, 51.41), Keers (3rd, 52.39) and senior Tyler Grant (Suwanee, Ga./South Forsyth), who rounded out W&L's 1-2-3-4 finish with a time of 52.43.
Sophomore Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) added a first-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:27.76 and a fourth-place finish in the 800m (2:01.94).
Rounding out the highlights for W&L were Myers in the 55m hurdles (4th, 8.46) and first-year Aaron Jeong (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) in the 55m dash (2nd, 6.62).
Washington and Lee returns to the track on Jan. 27, when it kicks off the two-day Liberty Open & Multi's beginning at 2:00 pm.
