SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Dylan Mills (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul's) broke his own school record in the javelin and improved his chances of competing in the NCAA Division III Championships with a first-place finish at the Roanoke/Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet on Thursday afternoon.
Mills, who entered the meet ranked 15th in Div. III in the javelin with a mark of 60.99 meters, broke his own school record with a heave of 61.04 meters, just the second time that a W&L athlete has broken the 60-meter barrier in the event.
Mills is slated to return to action on Saturday at the Swarthmore Last Chance meet and should his qualifying mark hold up will take part in the NCAA Division III Champsionships May 26-28 at Ohio Wesleyan University.
