SALEM, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's track & field team followed up its second-place finish at the Indoor ODAC Championships with a runner-up finish at the Outdoor ODAC Championships on Saturday evening at Roanoke College.
The Generals earned a total of nine All-ODAC commendations on the day, led by event wins from first-year Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) and sophomore Dylan Mills (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul's).
Tallman defended his indoor title in the 400m, winning in 49.27, while Mills repeated as ODAC Champion in the javelin with a toss of 56.30 meters.
Mills was closely followed in the javelin by first-year Kevin Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass./Tabor), who earned All-ODAC honors with a second-place finish (54.04) and junior Tyler Grant (Suwanee, Ga./South Forsyth) and first-year Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) finished in fifth in sixth with throws of 47.49 and 46.10, respectively.
Myers also took second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.13).
Third-place finishes and All-ODAC honors were also earned by first-year Cole Glasgow (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) in the 100m (11.19), first-year Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) in the 800m (1:57.65), junior Matt Gossett (Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan) in the 1500m (3:59.75) and sophomore A.J. Dowers (Princeton, N.J./Cranbury) in the discus with a heave of 38.69 meters.
The Generals' 4x400m relay team of Tallman, sophomore Steven Colliau (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena), Grant and Myers took second place with a time of 3:20.98.
Other top finishes for W&L included Tallman with a fourth-place finish in the 200m with a time of 22.79, sophomore Wayde Marsh (Milford, Del./Salesianum), who finished fourth in the 800m in 1:58.52, Grant with a fourth-place finish in the 400m hurdles in 57.38 and first-year David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) with a fourth-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 3.90 meters.
Senior Rob George (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) added a sixth-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:24.00 and first-year Jonathan Sells (Brandon, Fla./C. Leon King) took sixth in the long jump with a distance of 6.15 meters.
W&L will return to action on Saturday when it takes part in the Shippensburg Paul Kaiser Invitational beginning at 9:00 am.
