W&L Men's T&F Wraps up Two-Day W&l-VMI Carnival

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's track & field team wrapped up the two-day W&L-VMI Carnival on Saturday afternoon with 11 Top 10 finishes including a new school record and one meet record.

Junior Tyler Grant (Suwanee, Ga./South Forsyth) was responsible for the Generals' new school record as hew recorded 5,793 points in the decathlon to finish in third place. He recorded times of 11.80 in the 100m, 51.35 in the 400m, 16.38 in the 100m hurdles and 4:51.32 in the 1500m. In the field events, he threw the javelin 47.73 meters, tossed the discus 33.71 meters, heaved the shot 10.30 meters, cleared 3.19 meters in the pole vault, leapt 5.53 meters in the long jump and posted a mark of 1.72 meters in the high jump.
 
Sophomore Dylan Mills (Mobile, Ala./St. Paul's) recorded a first-place finish in the javelin with a meet-record distance of 57.60 meters. First-year Kevin Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass./Tabor) supplemented Mills' finish with a ninth-place showing (49.92m).
 
Other highlights for the Generals included first-years Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) and Dillon Myers (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) with second-place finishes. Tallman was second in the 400m with a time of 50.15 and Myers was runner up in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.47.
 
Myers and Tallman teamed with first-years Kane Thomas (Seattle, Wash./Shorewood) and Mac Keers (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) to take fourth in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:20.54.
 
Senior David Doobin (Summit, N.J./Newark Academy) tied for second in the high jump with a height of 1.78 meters.
 
Rounding out the top finishers for W&L were first-year Ben Simmons (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) with a seventh-place finish in the high jump (1.73m), first-year David Fishman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) in the pole vault (8th, 3.80m), junior Matt Benson (Mint Hill, N.C./Butler) in the shot put (9th, 12.10m), sophomore A.J. Dowers (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) in the discus (10th, 33.99m) and Keers in the 400m (10th, 51.81).
 
The Generasl return to action next Saturday when they take part in the Liberty Invitational beginning at 9:30 pm.
