W&L's Nate Hoey Named USTFCCCA Regional Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Washington and Lee Head Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach Nate Hoey has been named the South/Southeast Region Men's Coach of the Year the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) announced on Wednesday afternoon.

This marks the second regional honor bestowed upon Hoey, who was named the South/Southeast Region Women's Coach of the Year following the 2009 indoor track & field season.
 
This year, Hoey led the W&L men's team to a second-place finish at the Indoor ODAC Championships. It was the Generals' best finish as a team since the 1993 season.
 
W&L featured event winners in the 200m, the 400m, the 800m and the 4x400m relay, and had a total of nine All-ODAC (top three) finishes. W&L also claimed the Men's Athlete of the Meet and the ODAC Rookie of the Year in first-year Zander Tallman (Grand Blanc, Mich./Cranbrook-Kingswood), as well as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year in senior David Doobin (Summit, N.J./Newark Academy).
 
In the eight seasons Hoey has guided both the W&L men's and women's programs, the Generals have tallied 75 individual conference champions, 176 all-conference performances, eight ODAC Athlete of the Year honorees, five ODAC Rookie of the Year awards, and twice he has been named the ODAC Coach of the Year.
 
With the indoor portion of W&L's schedule now complete, the Generals will return to the track on March 19, when they take part in the Roanoke Invitational.
