MARIETTA, Ohio – The Washington and Lee men’s track & field team opened its 2009-2010 indoor season by competing at the Marietta College First Glimpse Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Top highlights from the meet included a stellar performance by sophomore Tyler Grant (Suwanee, Ga./South Forsyth), who finished third in the 400 meters with a time of 52.53 and fifth in the long jump with a leap of 12.36 meters. He also ran a leg on the second-place 4x400 meter relay team that finished with a time of 3:37.00. Grant was joined on the relay squad by senior Sean Hurdiss (Missouri City, Texas/Elkins), first-year J.P. Sauer (Birmingham, Ala./Altamont School) and senior Thomas Brandlein (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan).
Sauer also finished second in the 800 meters (2:06.00), while Hurdiss finished seventh in the 200 meters, crossing the finish line in 23.97 seconds.
Junior David Doobin (Summit, N.J./Newark Academy) also had an outstanding day for the Generals, finishing second in the high jump (1.83 meters) and third in the triple jump (12.36 meters).
Washington and Lee will return to action on Jan. 23, when it travels to Susquehanna University for the Orange & Maroon Classic at 10:00 am.
