SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee had a pair of track & field athletes honored as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Junior David Doobin (Summit, N.J./Newark Academy) was honored as the men’s Athlete of the Week, while senior Maggie Sutherland (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) took home the honors on the women’s side. Doobin’s selection marks the second time that a W&L male has been honored this season, while Sutherland’s selection is W&L’s first on the women’s side.
Doobin captured a pair of runner-up finishes as part of the VMI Winter Relays on Saturday. He took second place in the high jump (1.89 meters), while also placing second in the triple jump (11.74 meters).
Sutherland garnered a pair of first-place finishes for the women’s team. She finished first in the high jump (1.50 meters) and first in the 55-meter hurdles (9.53 seconds).
The W&L men’s and women’s track & field teams return to action on Saturday when they will take part in the Susquehanna Indoor Invitational.
