BETHELEM, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s track and field teams continued their outdoor season by competing against NCAA Division I and III teams at the Moravian Greyhound Invitational on Saturday.
W&L came away with 13 Top 10 finishes on the day and one new school record was set.
Senior Kat Telfeyan (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) led the Generals with a first-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a personal best time of 18:10.00. First-year Taylor Maxey (Poway, Calif./The Bishop’s School) set a new school record in the discus with a toss of 122’ 6”.
Other top finishers on the women’s side included first-year Lauren Schultz (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), who ran a personal best in the 1,500 meters (5:02.76), sophomore Natalie Stier (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton), who finished third among DIII competitors in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.76 and senior Maggie Sutherland (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy), who finished second in DIII in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters. First-year Rachel Mensch (Edina, Minn./Edina) notched a seventh-place finish among DIII competitors in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.27.
On the men’s side, the Generals were led by sophomore Robert Warneford-Thomson (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal), who finished fifth in DIII in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:39.52. Junior David Doobin (Summit, N.J./Newark Academy) placed fourth in Division III in the high jump with a height of 1.77 meters and senior Tom Brandlein (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) took fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 58.30.
Sophomore Tyler Grant (Suwanee, Ga./South Forsyth) captured sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (58.34) and third in the 110 meter hurdles (16.60).
The Generals return to action on Friday when they take part in day one of the ODAC Championships hosted by Bridgewater College. The first day of competition is set to begin at 3:00 pm.
