Two W&L Indoor T&F Athletes in Action at CNU
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and
women’s indoor track & field teams each had an athlete in
action at the Christopher Newport Last Chance Pentathlon on
Wednesday afternoon.
On the men’s side, sophomore Tyler Grant (Suwanee, Ga./South
Forsyth) came in fifth place overall and set a new school record
with a total of 2,974 points. He covered the 55 meter hurdles with
a time of 8.49 seconds, leapt 5.75 meters in the high jump, tossed
the shot put 9.73 meters, cleared 1.66 meters in the high jump and
finished the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:51.98.
On the women’s side, senior Maggie Sutherland (Pittsburgh,
Pa./Sewickley) competed in just four of the five events. She
finished the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.18 seconds, cleared
1.50 meters in the jigh jump, tossed the shot 10.11 meters and
recorded a distance of 4. 39 meters in the long jump.
Both the men’s and women’s indoor track & field
teams are scheduled to compete in the Virginia Tech Last Chance
meet on Saturday beginning at 9:00 am.
