W&L Indoor Track & Field Teams Compete at Susquehanna
SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and
women’s indoor track & field teams were in action at the
Susquehanna Indoor Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Tyler Grant (Suwanee, Ga./South Forsyth) led the
men’s team as he notched a pair of fifth-place finishes. He
took fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 52.59 as well as taking
fifth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50.
Other highlights on the men’s side included senior Ryan
Castle (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville), who took 14th place in
the long jump with a jump of 5.98 meters and sophomore Matt Gossett
(Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan), who ran the mile in 4:46.02 to take 14th
place.
First-year Marissa Thompson (Chatham, Va./Chatham) led the
women’s team with a second-place finish in the 55 meters,
posting a time of 7.56. Senior Maggie Sutherland (Pittsburgh,
Pa./Sewickley) garnered a third-place finish in the 55 meter
hurdles with a time of 9.38 and first-year Lauren Schultz
(Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) covered the mile in 5:22.10 to finish
in seventh place.
Also for the women, sophomore Natalie Stier (Alexandria,
Va./Bishop Ireton) took fourth place in the 400 meters with a time
of 1:02.52 and the 4x400 meter relay team of Stier, Sutherland,
senior Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John’s) and
junior Ashley Carr (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School) took fourth
place with a mark of 4:20.11.
The men’s and women’s track & field teams return
to action on Feb. 26, when they take part in the ODAC Championships
at Liberty University.
